A Success Story

If I'm honest, it's a little daunting to leave the house. One kid thinks, moves and talks a mile a minute (touching everything along the way), both can be a little sneaky, and a third cries a fair amount and eats about every 2 hours during the day (maybe cause she sleeps all night!), making timing activities or being efficient in general, slightly difficult. But every time I do leave the house to do something new with all three of them I feel very accomplished. All that to say...we met Anne Van for a hike this weekend and despite the fact that on the drive home one kid was lamenting his lost sock (fortunately it was only the sock on its way toward the Potomac River rapids), one had poop in his boot (!!!), and the third was screaming and crying (why? I never figured out), I left that hike feeling like a success story. I turned the radio up loud(ish), laughed out loud at my good fortune, and then told Mike he was in charge as soon as we got home.

I am totally in control here!!! Look, no hands!

This weekend we also got to hang with the Schwartzes  The 2014 kids edition

Brings back memories. The 2008 kids edition

It wasn't like that the whole time, here they are peaceful.

These boys love their baby...as long as she doesn't like Barbies (as I was told today by Jacob).

Amelia - 3 months

Amelia is three months old. She has been a champion sleeper since birth and for the past month has been sleeping 12 or 13 hours straight. Let me repeat this, because it's truly remarkable, she goes to bed around 7ish and wakes up, without a peep in between, around 7:30 or 8am. Sure, being a baby and all, this could all end tomorrow and if it does I'll be forever grateful for the 3 months (or so) of gold medal winning sleep this child has bestowed on us. Obviously, not to compare or anything, we are not accustomed to this kind of behavior from any baby of ours. Had only ever heard of it in folklore. She has a great big smile, sometimes ever so slightly seems to laugh, still spits up a TON (ugh reflux), is very fussy on average every OTHER day instead of every day, and is becoming more predictable with her needs/habits each day. Unfortunately, she still seems less than thrilled with the carseat and any sort of trip in the car during daylight hours, but I'm optimistic that that will change and that her award winning sleep-ability will remain the same. Case closed.

Here she is sleeping through the flash of my camera.

And, awake!

The boys continue to be very patient with Amelia and love to try and make her smile. They help me out a lot too (though they still refuse to change a poop diaper, hmph). It's been really amazing and fun to see how they've adjusted to this new, little, loud, person, who is always tagging along with us.
