Movin' On Up

As most of you may know, we are on the move. We sold our beloved condo across from the zoo, packed up all our belongings, and made plans to move on up Connecticut Avenue to a deluxe apartment in the sky (luxurious views below). Jacob has watched with skepticism and possible concern that he might be packed up with all the boxes.






















































Fortunately, he's been distracted by his attempts at crawling/thinking about crawling (see supporting video).






























No one said moving with a baby is easy and I'll second that. Especially since our baby managed to catch a bad cold smack dab in the middle of the move and has been home sick all week. So, all I can say is that our things are now in the new apartment in various forms (unpacked, packed, lost?), no one at the new apartment is getting any sleep thanks to Jacob's post-nasal drip, and I'm hoping to have some vacation days left after Jacob's first month of daycare comes to an end. Shew!

Oh, and we found out that a bid we put on a house was accepted! If all goes as planned, we'll be moving to Bethesda, MD (all the way out in the suburbs) in July! I was having mixed feelings about leaving the city, but just put me in a (deluxe) apartment for a couple days, with boxes everywhere, and a sick baby in our bedroom and, well ... sign me up!

Vanessa's visit!

My friend Vanessa came to DC just to see me. She said she was also going to go to a conference for work, but that's neither here nor there. I haven't seen her since she moved to Nashville almost two years ago. She got to meet Jacob and we had a great time visiting with her friend from Nashville, Beth. Her visit has inspired me to plan another adventure with her -- next stop... Alaska?

I don't know why I love this series of photos so much, but I do. Especially the one where you actually see his foot in motion. I just love it.

Big week

Last week we went to Jackie's house to celebrate Passover with a large gathering (including Aunt Nancy and cousins Sam and Anderson!) of friends. Jackie was such a good hostess -- unfortunately, you'll just have to take my word for it since I don't have any pictures to prove it! Grammy and Grandpa did get Jacob a book about Passover, so that has been interesting for him to listen to while he gnaws on its pages.

Then this past weekend Jacob dressed in his Sunday best to attend our annual Eastern dinn-ah (as Memaw would say). All the usual suspects were there and we had a great time. I got a glimpse of my future as 3pm rolled around and the adults were almost outnumbered by kids -- I counted about 10 boys (and 1 girl) -- who were running around looking for hidden easter eggs in the backyard. Pure madness -- Jacob and Lyle were taking notes.

Jacob Eats

After months of emptying our bank account to feed this kid special, hypoallergenic formula, which basically digests the food for him... Jacob finally started on solids last month. It was a struggle in the beginning; Jacob was quite adept at pursing his lips and in the rare moment of weakness, managed to use those lips to push that foreign object (food) right off of his tongue in a very purposeful manner -- if that doesn't count as fine motor skills I don't know what does. Fortunately, his Aunt Nancy's persuasive negotiation skills caused him to have a change of heart after a couple weeks of practice (force) and he now actually opens his mouth when the spoon heads in his direction.

Oh Savannah...

Mike and I spent the weekend in Savannah at our friends Kristin & Payson's wedding so Grammy, Grandpa and Bubbie drove all the way down from New York to spend the weekend with Jacob. While we were having sweet tea and pecan pie...
